- Students studying abroad where there are no Ukrainian schools or where teaching is ineffective.
- Parents who want their child to maintain a connection with Ukrainian education.
- The program or teachers at an offline institution do not provide enough knowledge to make it easier to start learning in middle school.
- The child has to constantly catch up with others because it is difficult for them to concentrate among 20-30 students in the classroom.
Successful completion of elementary school.
Online school, 4th grade
Non-standard quality education at AP School.
Who is online learning in 4th grade suitable for?
- And lessons at other online schools are ineffective because a regular broadcast is not a lesson.
We have created a school where students learn without textbooks, individually, where the teacher is always available, the program does not disappear, and distance is transformed into proximity with the help of technology.
Curriculum for 4th grade: what exactly we study
Standard list
Ukrainian language (writing + reading)
Foreign language (English/German/Polish)
Mathematics, computer science/design and technology, natural sciences
Music, visual arts
Physical education, health basics
Integrated classes
Drawing the future: conveying students’ vision of ideas and the future in the visual arts; developing creativity skills.
I explore the world: traveling through the virtual world across time and space; developing knowledge about the history of the planet.
Ukrainian
By the end of the year, students will be able to freely reproduce the text they have read in other forms of presentation — verbally, visually, retelling it in their own words and distinguishing the main idea from the details, editing the text.
Foreign languages
Students will be able to perceive information heard from the teacher and construct short statements, their vocabulary will increase to a level that will allow them to confidently read some works of unadapted original literature, they will strengthen their basic knowledge, and be ready for the next step – levels A2 – B1.
Features of other subjects
We provide more interaction, practice, and increase the complexity of homework assignments.
Compliance with NUS rules
Although the UCEQA has once again canceled the DPA, 4th graders must achieve the level of knowledge of junior high school graduates. To this end, students practice constantly, and the main task of teachers is to engage the child’s interest.
Advantages of online learning in 4th grade
Active pace
The intensity of classes in the last semester is similar to how we used to prepare for the DPA — we increase the pace a little to effectively consolidate knowledge.
Readiness for middle school
We improve self-organization and emphasize discipline.
Confidence
We never devalue effort, because that is the worst example a teacher can set. Instead, we find advantages in failures.
Curiosity
This is the main principle of the NUS reform, and we contribute to this idea: no lesson is without games, and every student will be delighted.
How does learning take place in an online school for 4th grade students?
Schedule
Rotation of activities
Students study 5 days a week, 4-5 lessons per day, with several standard lessons and at least 1 integrated lesson each day.
There are 2 shifts: morning (9:00 a.m. – 1:00/2:00 p.m.) and evening (12:00 p.m. – 4:00/5:00 p.m.).
Class
Non-standard theory
The lesson is also divided into several parts, the largest of which is theory, which follows mental warm-ups. Several times a week, we watch educational cartoons that we have created ourselves. In other cases, the teacher takes on the theory themselves, providing a detailed analysis of the material in our own format.
Class
Practice: excitement and enthusiasm
We have a ranking system so that students can track their intellectual growth. This is a result of interactive tasks that had to be saved somehow. These tasks are similar to games, but the goal is not to win, but to use knowledge.
Advice from AP School teachers for parents of fourth graders
Soon, it will be time to move on to middle school, but how can this be done correctly?
Teach them to plan
Human memory is a complex thing, but notes bring this complexity together. Buy your child a notebook so that they have a practical diary, not just one with a list of lessons.
Help us prepare
We are committed to explaining what middle school is, but no one knows their child like their parents do — explain, give examples from your own life.
Don’t push
The main thing in this matter is not to overdo it. Explain that the transition is important, but not scary.

Frequently asked questions about studying at an online 4th grade school
Is there any preparation for the transition to secondary school?
Yes, at AP School’s distance learning high school, the 4th grade places a strong emphasis on preparing for the 5th grade. We not only teach more complex terms and provide a more detailed analysis of tasks, but also pay attention to the psychological aspect — children need to be given self-confidence, because the transition to more complex subjects sometimes causes students to feel confused, no matter how “smooth” the program may be.
How is knowledge assessed?
For our junior online school and for 4th grade students, we use level-based assessment: initial (I), average (A), sufficient (S), and high (H).
Are there any projects or group assignments for 4th grade students?
Yes, we have introduced project tasks into our 4th grade program. Almost all of them are group tasks, which allows students to go through the socialization stage more effectively: learn to work in a team, listen to their peers, communicate in a way that makes them be heard, i.e., develop communication skills. This development is no worse than in an offline institution.
How can you help your child stay motivated in 4th grade?
Regular motivation is needed. In our distance learning school, and especially in the transitional 4th and 9th grades, we work with the psychological aspect constantly, and all teachers are focused on communication. We expect help from parents and give advice on how to act in different situations.
