- Nowadays, it is not enough for students to simply memorize material – they must be able to analyze information and learn how to use it.
- Although mathematics is still one subject, the teacher divides the topics into algebra and geometry.
- Natural science is replaced by biology and geography.
- If 5th grade was a time of adaptation, then in 6th grade, students should already feel confident in middle school.
- The amount of independent work increases, and homework now requires more effort.
- Another period of socialization begins – circles of close friends are formed, and some of them will remain unchanged until the end of school.

Advice for parents of sixth graders from AP School teachers
How to make your child’s learning as effective as possible. Check that you are not breaking these simple but important rules.
Stick to a routine
We ask you to monitor your teenager’s sleep, because it is like the power for a laptop for the body.
Full weekends
Change locations on weekends if you have the opportunity, or simply let them rest.
Repeat the material
Memory works cyclically: from short-term to long-term, so repeat often — then you will remember for a long time.
Movement is a must
We have physical education and exercise every day, but this is not enough for a teenager’s body, so as soon as you have the opportunity, do sports.

Frequently asked questions about studying at an online school, 6th grade
How does a student organize their school day in 6th grade?
Students in our distance learning school in 6th grade study according to a structured schedule: online lessons are in the morning until 1-2 p.m. or in the afternoon until 4-5 p.m. After class, they have time for self-study and rest. This is a traditional time allocation in schools, which teaches discipline, getting used to a clear routine, and planning the school day and, later, the working day.
Which subjects change the most in 6th grade?
The biggest changes concern natural science subjects. The natural sciences familiar to schoolchildren are divided into narrower disciplines: geography and biology, where we look at the scientific view of the planet and begin to study living organisms. Technical subjects are also changing. Mathematics gradually prepares students for the division into algebra, geometry, and an introduction to physics in subsequent grades.
Is more independent work required in 6th grade?
Yes, the volume and complexity of independent tasks gradually increase each year, because without this, the school will not be able to prepare students for higher education within the allotted time. We help develop self-organization skills so that students learn to manage their time properly.
Can the workload or pace of learning be changed?
Yes, we adapt the pace to the needs of the teenager: there are options with basic and extended workloads, as well as additional individual consultations.
The teachers at our lyceum do not require students to have a specific starting level, because it is always possible to catch up. The main thing is that the student has the desire, understands why they need an increased workload, and is not lazy about studying at an intensive pace.
