Advantages of online learning in 2nd grade

Skills

We reinforce the skills we began to develop in 1st grade: from reading to interpretation, from adding numbers to analyzing large numbers.

Difference

We find the differences between abstract and concrete, literal and figurative meanings, and the cause and effect of events.

Structure

We learn to plan the school week, analyze what we have achieved during the day, and what it will give us tomorrow.

Stage 2 of socialization

The introduction was successful, so now we are actively learning to maintain friendly relationships, work harmoniously in a team, and resolve and settle conflicts.

Globalizing knowledge

We move from Ukraine to intercultural relations — a little geography in the subjects of YADS and Secrets of Nature.

There are two shifts: morning (9:00 a.m. – 1:00/2:00 p.m.) and evening (12:00 p.m. – 4:00/5:00 p.m.).

Advice from AP School teachers for parents of second graders

Second grade classes are held online, so we ask parents to monitor their child’s progress. To this end, we provide daily comments and feedback from teachers.

Rest

Although we guarantee that the lessons will be interesting, external factors sometimes work against this. So, in case of difficult circumstances or simply lack of sleep, inform the teacher and skip the class — you will have a record.

Allocate time

Homework assignments are not large and do not take much time. If your child does not have time to complete it within 1-2 hours after class, let them do it on other days, not in the evening. We do not set strict deadlines.

Do not study instead of your child

Encourage them to think, rather than delegating tasks to their parents. Let them struggle with the knowledge at first, and everything will work out in time.

Frequently asked questions about studying at an online school, 2nd grade

Are textbooks and notebooks required?

We are working to make learning as modern and effective as possible. Therefore, all the necessary materials for studying in the 2nd grade are available online: interactive tasks, games for logic and spatial thinking development, and virtual simulators are available on our platform.

How is knowledge assessed?

We have decided not to conduct traditional tests in the first two grades of elementary school. Excessive pressure and unnecessary responsibility can negatively affect the emotional state and motivation of children aged 6–8, so teachers conduct small independent assignments, and tests will begin in the third year of study.

Is there support from the teacher and the curator?

Teachers support children, and service managers support parents. In the case of children, this involves motivation, repetition, and reinforcement of material, as well as support in project-based learning: additional hints, explanations, and individual work. To support parents, there is a chat with teachers, service managers, and methodologists.

Is there homework, and how much?

In our distance learning school, we give homework to students in the 2nd grade. There is not much, and we try not to give assignments on weekends unnecessarily so that the child has the opportunity to rest or spend time on other activities or hobbies.

Is it possible to transfer to an offline school later?

Yes, it is possible to transfer to another school at any stage. In all schools, there are often situations when classes have already started, but later the students’ circumstances change, or they simply do not like the classes or the group, and in order not to waste parents’ time, we offer a 14-day demo version. This allows the student to undergo a pilot training program in the 2nd grade in an online format.

How does feedback work for parents?

We regularly provide feedback to parents of first graders at the end of the week or day, depending on the circumstances. Teachers publish lesson summaries, which parents can view in the student’s personal account, allowing parents to stay informed about their child’s progress and understand how each stage of the program went.
